The church must exist and function by the principles laid down in God's Word. Those principles are given to the church to carry on the continuing ministry of its Lord. Since the church as a whole must follow these principles, we are a Word-centered church. The Word reveals the following six objectives in reference to the church:
To Glorify God (Romans 15:6; Eph. 3:21)
To Equip the Saints for the Work of the Ministry (Eph. 4:11; Romans 12)
To Maintain Holiness (Eph. 5:26-27; Matt. 18:15-20)
To Evangelize the World (Matt. 28:18-20)
To Suffer when Necessary (1 Peter 2:21)
To Await His Return (1 Thess. 4:13-18)
It was in January 1943 that a Bible class was being help in DeYoung's Funeral Chapel on Friday mornings. Rev. Arthur E. Petznick of Glenwood, Illinois was to be the teacher.
This was the beginning of what is now the Lansing Bible Church. It was not until May 1944 that is was formerly organized as the Calvary Gospel Church. This was an outgrowth of the Bible Class that had been meeting for some time in the DeYoung Funeral Parlors.
Rev. Attileo Carducci helped organize the church and served as part-time pastor, in addition to his own duties with his own church in Chicago Heights. He was assisted by Rev. Harold Young, a post-graduate student at the Moody Bible Institute, from Nov. 1944 to March 1945.
/after organization the group moved into the store building -- known as the Lansing Sewing Shop. Space soon became a problem and moved to the new Memorial Junior High School. Serviced were conducted here each week until the building on Burnham Ave was completed and became the permanent church home. This same year of 1945 construction was begun on the present building under the leadership of Rev. Petznick .
In June 1946 the new building was dedicated-- Jesus Christ the Chief Cornerstone.
Who we are
Lansing Bible Church is a Bible-believing, Bible-preaching local church. We stand uncompromisingly for the unchanging, inspired Word of God.
We are independent in character in that we are not connected with any sectarian body. The governing power of our Church rests entirely with those whom God has given oversight to under the direction of the Holy Spirit through God's Word.
We are fundamental in faith as opposed to the liberal and apostate section of many of the major denominations rejecting the fundamental tenets of our Christian faith.
We are evangelistic and missionary in spirit. We endeavor to propagate the truth as well as to hold to it. Our desire is to see believers become mature in Christ, live a godly and holy life in this evil world, and share the good news with those who are lost.
